It’s the middle of summer, and more than 80% of connected heat pumps are currently running in cooling or auto mode. If you’ve had smart grid control running for a while, your space heating has been leaning into the cheapest hours of the day for months, based on Nord Pool spot prices. Your cooling never got the same treatment. Whenever your heat pump switched over for summer, right along with everyone else’s, it kept running on fixed settings, price optimization or not.
Now cooling gets the same automation as heating, just in time for the season where most of you actually need it.
Adaptive to your active mode
Your device settings now show separate Heating and Cooling tabs, right next to each other. Whichever mode your heat pump happens to be running right now opens by default, so you’re always looking at the settings that actually matter in the moment. Each tab shows only what your specific unit can control, whether that’s leaving water offset, target room temperature, or both.
How it decides
The idea is the same as heating: adapt to Nord Pool prices as they move, running harder when electricity is cheap and easing off when it’s expensive. For cooling though, a higher offset or target actually means weaker cooling, so the mapping flips: the minimum values are applied when prices are low, and the maximum values take over once prices spike. Same goal as heating, just the opposite direction.
Turning it on
This works through the same Daikin ONECTA connection your heating optimization already uses, so there’s nothing new to set up. Open the Cooling tab, fill in your minimum and maximum values, and save. There’s no separate switch to flip. As long as those values are set, your heat pump starts following the price the next time it checks in, no re-authentication or restart needed.
Your cooling now skips the expensive hours too, the same way your heating already does.
